FAQ

What is this? Why am I on this website?

This is the website for Index Drift, a non-fiction anthology series released intermittently and featuring a mix of non-fiction, experimental and found footage filmmaking. I don’t know why you are on this website.

Why are you releasing your films like this?

For the longest time I have thought of myself as “independent to a fault” and so this feels like a natural extension of that. The format was inspired by single-artist anthology comics like Michael DeForge’s Lose. Releasing it online as a download was inspired by researching the backstory of Quantum Project, the first ever film made exclusively for the internet, which you can read more about here.

This seems like an unnecessarily cumbersome way to release something.

You’re probably right.

What formats do you get when you purchase an installment?

When you purchase an installment of Index Drift, you will receive a PDF with a link to download the film in multiple formats, including 1080p and 4K H.264 files, in addition to ProRes copies as well. You will also receive a streaming link. All links remain active for 3 months.

Why would you release a film in ProRes? It seems excessive.

It does, yes. But personally I’m sick of watching films that have had a ton of care put into the image, only for a large portion of it to be lost when streamed. ProRes offers the highest quality possible for viewing media and is, in my opinion, akin to listening to music in an AIFF or WAV format - not always convenient, but certainly better.

Aren’t you worried about piracy?

No.
